I've taken my love of cooking & experimenting with new recipes and turned it into a small, home-based business.

Miss Mandy Q

A House Divided!

A House Divided!

My name is Mandy…and I am not a vegan-but I now live with one.

Last week the PIC and I had discussed making a change in our diet. I have been having some health issues and I am trying to go gluten free. We had also been talking about “going vegan” for a month…then one night last week my PIC decided to stay up & watch some documentaries on Netflix…I woke up this past Sunday to him declaring that he was going to become “food sober”…he has made a “conscious decision” to change his eating habits immediately and is trying his best to be vegan=Taco Wednesday will never be the same.

How can two wanna be foodies continue to be foodies if one of us is vegan? (yes, I know it is possible-I am just whining and venting…)

Our Balut Adventures

Our Balut Adventures

I do not know why…but his decision to be vegan hurts my soul. :( I have been trying to figure it out…and I do not know how to describe it. I think I am taking it a little too personal. Perhaps because the PIC and I started our friendship over a Facebook post…”The Food List Challenge’s 100 Foods To Try Before You Die-How many have you tried”…he posted that he had tried “65 out of 100 :) Who wants to finish this list with me? Might entail some traveling.” I took the survey and I had tried 61 out of 100 different foods listed…so I commented-and we started talking…and a friendship was born. Soon after, we met for our first “Taco Wednesday” where plans were made for us to try balut…yes, balut. For those of you who do not know-balut is a developing duck embryo that is boiled and eaten in the shell. Sounds disgusting, I know…but it actually doesn’t taste too bad. Do I want to eat it again? No. But I am now 62 out of 100.

I am doing my best to be supportive, but I love bacon…I love tacos-real tacos…the ones filled with carne asada…pollo asado and all the fixings.  I love cheese! I love honey! How am I supposed to be supportive when I love all these things? The best I can do for now is…compromise. Try some new recipes that are “vegan friendly”. Trying new things is good, right? I guess we can become vegan friendly foodies…but I am going to miss the original “Taco Wednesday”!
